COVID-19 Response

With the onset of social distancing in March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KID swiftly shifted to a virtual environment with no lapse in service. Forecasting needs based on our 41 year strong history, KID proactively innovated to ensure we were meeting needs of our community’s most vulnerable children and families.

  • Therapists and social workers doubled down on face to face interactions, increasing number of children served.
  • On March 30, 2020, KID launched as a Monday food distribution site in collaboration with Feeding South Florida and FLIPANY. It has been going strong and feed approximately 500 families (2000) individuals each week.
  • On April 2, 2020, KID Supported Foster Care was the first in the state to launch virtual foster parent recruiting/training courses. It is now on the 3rd round of courses as we prepare for a surge in foster care services due to increases in domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health instability, social isolation, and more.
  • On June 1, 2020, KID Preschool PLUS and Summer Camp opened at 25% capacity to serve those whose parents work front line jobs.
  • On August 19, 2020, KID became a Learning Pod location for 27 children to provide a safe, learning environment for elementary aged students while their parents work. Future expansion is in the works.
  • In September 2020, KID began offering Benefits Enrollment to connect Broward County residents to their much needed services. Services have already been provided in Miami-Dade with incredible success.

KID values are: safety, compassion, family, tenacity, wisdom, and trust. They are at the forefront of everything we do. We are committed to making what seems impossible, KIDpossible.
