Supporting At-Risk Children and Families

Our childhoods should be filled with fun memories, essential lessons, and growth. But children have little say in their home and family situations and the impact that will have on their lives. In our community, like so many others, there are children in distress. Children aching for loving, caring, and supportive homes. When children and families need supportive services to get back on track, Kids in Distress, Inc is there.

Kids In Distress, Inc. (KID) is a nationally accredited organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, preserving families, and treating children who have been abused and neglected. Since 1979, when KID was created as a shelter for abused and neglected children, we’ve provided services to imagine better outcomes, invest in children, and improve their lives.

We believe all children deserve loving, secure, and stable homes, so we provide programs that do just that. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we maintain the highest standards in providing essential care to children and families in our South Florida community. Whether you or a child you know is in need, we’re here to help. Learn more about our services and how you can make a difference for a child today.

Our Capacity For Service

In the decades since our founding, we’ve continuously invested in our capacity to keep up with the demand for our services. Kids in Distress now possesses a five-acre multiple-program campus in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and a four-acre campus featuring two family foster group homes in Southwest Ranches, FL. These strategic investments are critical hubs for providing the support children require.

Our Services

Foster Care

Providing children who have been removed from their homes as a result of abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment with a stable and nurturing environment where they can develop to their fullest emotional, educational, and social potential.

Education

Our Preschool, Aftercare, and Summer Camp programs provide children with a safe, positive environment. Our educational programs enhance academic achievement, support social, physical, and character development, and strengthen youth relationships with adults and peers.

Family Strengthening

KID offers individual and family counseling, group counseling, infant mental health services, adoption support and therapeutic visitation to children and families in need of support.

Mental and Physical Health

At KID, we recognize that supporting children and families means providing support wherever it’s needed. We provide mental health counseling services for children and families and adoption support services for children and parents throughout the process. That support extends to quality and affordable dental care as well.

Imagine. Invest. Improve

As a nonprofit, we rely on and are incredibly thankful for the support of our donors. Their financial and in-kind contributions help sustain our mission to improve the lives of children in our community. As a KID donor, you help support all our work. You help create stable living conditions for children through our foster care and family-strengthening programs. You give children the boost they need for academic success. And your support helps a child overcome mental and physical health obstacles that may be keeping them from their full potential.

If you want to help us create better lives for children and families in South Florida, consider donating today. Together, we can change the trajectory for kids in distress.
